01PLOT

The Ninja Turtles and Splinter win a boat trip to Europe, which delights the Turtles, and after some apprehension, Splinter agrees that this would be good for them. However, the trip starts off on a rough note when they find that their boat is a small, rusty one rather than a luxury liner. Splinter is eagerly anticipating their arrival in Paris, but the Turtles suffer from severe seasickness.

Krang has sent Shredder equipment to create a giant electromagnetic antenna, which can be used to pull the Technodrome through a dimensional portal to Earth. The only structure on Earth that will suit their needs is the Eiffel Tower.

The Turtles and Splinter arrive in Paris and end up checking out the Parisian sewers, although the Turtles are unenthusiastic. They practice their ninja skills, but Splinter easily trounces them.

April, Vernon and Irma from Channel 6 are also in Paris, to report from the celebrations of Bastille Day, when The Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady arrive and wire the Eiffel Tower, transforming it into a massive electromagnet. Every metal object nearby is immediately drawn up to the Eiffel Tower, including Vernon's microphone.

The Turtles' weapons are also affected by the sudden magnetic pull, and they go topside to investigate. As they run towards the Eiffel Tower, they hear April screaming from a nearby kitchen, where she's being menaced by flying cutlery. After rescuing her, they make their way to the Tower, which has drawn countless metal objects, including Shredder's armor. He orders Rocksteady to shut the generator down, and all the objects fall to the ground - including Vernon and Irma, who are barely saved by Michelangelo.

Donatello thinks it was a freak atmospheric occurrence and the Turtles go about their sightseeing. They spend some time sightseeing at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, where they are mistaken for gargoyles, and then to the Louvre, where they examine some great art.

April finds Shredder and his mutants preparing the generator for another attempt, and is caught when she slips off a ledge. She manages to transmit a message about what Shredder is doing, tipping off the Turtles to what is happening at the Eiffel Tower. The Turtles rush to the Tower just as it's about to be re-magnetized, and fight Shredder and his mutants.

Shredder manages to momentarily triumph over the Turtles and switches on the generator, which begins yanking the Tower off of the Earth instead of pulling the Technodrome. The Turtles manage to get on board and free April, while also destroying the generator. The Tower crashes back down to Earth once again.

That night, there are fireworks in celebration of the Tower's return, but the Turtles have had enough excitement and want to return to the sewers.

05MEMORABLE QUOTES

Irma: OK Vernon, You're on! Vernon: _(nervously)_ Bonjour! We're coming to you _(gulps)_ live from Paris. Uh, that's in France, you know...where the Bastille Day ceremonies are about to start, uh, uh...commence, uhhh...begin. _(laughs nervously and adjusts collar)_ It's terrible when you know a lot of words!

06NOTES & GOOFS

  • Hal Rayle voices Raphael for this episode and the entire "Vacation in Europe" story arc.
  • Jim Cummings voices Shredder.
  • This side season was made in 1992 and was shown in the UK during Christmas of that year before being shown prior to the proper Season 7 run a year later.
  • When Vernon walks to the Channel 6 newsvan after Burne drops April from the Bastille Day ceremony coverage he is seen walking straight through the rear door instead of around it.
  • Vernon's jacket disappears when he falls into the giant cake.
  • Irma's watch disappears from her wrist when she pulls out the scissors when she and Vernon are stuck on the tower.
  • The "Stop" sign in the Turtle lair is colored green with orange letters.
  • Donatello reads the letter from Greasy Eddie's Pizza but in "Plan Six From Outer Space" it was Michelangelo who originally read it. Likewise when the letter was read, Splinter was with his sons in the original episode, but the episode starts with him appearing like he's just learning about the trip.
  • When the Turtle Van is first seen in the French sewer, the inside of it is not colored in.
  • When all the weapons go flying at Donatello, even the wooden part of Michelangelo's nunchuks go flying at him, but wood isn't magnetic, plus Leonardo is seen with his swords back on his belt afterwards even though they are still seen attached to the wall.
  • After Leonardo was thrown into the Turtle Van in practice, he was seen with Raphael's colors.
