01PLOT

At the end of the previous episode, the Ninja Turtles sent the Technodrome back to Dimension X with Krang, Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady in it. The Technodrome is now stranded on an asteroid. Krang and Shredder want revenge and send Bebop and Rocksteady to Earth to bring the entire Channel 6 building to Dimension X via trans-dimensional thrusters. Krang disguises them as humans, so they can go unnoticed. But the disguise only lasts for a few hours, so they must hurry. Bebop and Rocksteady also have a _Pretendicon_, a robot disguised as Splinter, to lure the TMNT into the building and send them to Dimension X.

The TMNT believe that the Shredder and his gang are gone, and they plan for a vacation.

Meanwhile, Bebop and Rocksteady get hired as Channel 6 janitors and begin to control the programs. Shredder calls them and reminds them why they are there. Bebop and Rocksteady resume their search for the basement, but instead find where they are taping an episode of the "Idaho Potatoes", a parody of the California Raisins (with lyrics like "I heard it through the potato vine"). Bebop and Rocksteady then fire the actors playing the potatoes, thinking they could "play potatoes" better. April O'Neil stumbles into the studio and wonders why the two executives are dancing in potato costumes. She then looks into a camera filming the show... revealing the two executives are really Bebop and Rocksteady! Before she can escape, the two mutants capture her.

The TMNT encounter the Pretendicon/Splinter and think Splinter has lost his memory after being knocked on the head by a sign. They discover that he is not Splinter when the real Splinter radios them to tell them that April O'Neil has been captured by Bebop and Rocksteady. They go to the Channel 6 building and discover Bebop and Rocksteady have bound and gagged April and locked her in a locker in the basement and started setting up the thrusters. When the Channel 6 building is launched, the TMNT disconnect the thrusters and stop the building from taking off, save April and send Bebop and Rocksteady back to Dimension X.

05NOTES & GOOFS

  • When Krang was shaking Shredder the wrist bands on his android body were red instead of gray.
  • Raphael's "R" was white after he recovers from being thrown into the snack truck.
  • When Bebop asks Rocksteady how the Pretendicon will get rid of the Turtles, Rocksteady activates the Pretendicon's disguise while claiming that Shredder showed him. The duo were just given the Pretendicon and sent to Earth without being given any explanation on how the Pretendicon worked.
  • When April sees Bebop and Rocksteady through the studio camera, they are both seen wearing their normal clothes and not the suits they had purchased at the clothes store earlier. Their normal clothes reappear after their disguises wear off near the end of the episode, removing even the potato costumes they removed from others.
  • When the actors wearing the potato suits are singing their are heard singing the chorus line before the chorus music starts.
  • At the end of the previous episode, the Technodrome was seen crashing into a vast mechanical-looking moon or planet. In this one, they've somehow been transferred to an asteroid with a lake, trees and a volcano.
  • At the end of the previous episode, the Turtles fired the missile under the Technodrome at Times Square sending the Technodrome to Dimension X that left a big hole in the street. In this one, the big hole is next to the Channel 6 building.

06TRIVIA

  • The name "Plan Six from Outer Space" is a play on the title of Edward D. Wood, Jr.'s 1959 science fiction movie _Plan 9 from Outer Space_. The _6_ could be referring to the fact that most of the episode takes place at the Channel 6 news building.
  • This episode of the 1987 TV series is the prelude to the series' "Vacation in Europe" side-season. The following episode is the postlude to the side-season.
  • The Pretendicon is a variant of the Turtle Terminator, the robot who impersonated Irma in an earlier episode.
  • First time Bebop and Rocksteady appear as humans in real time since "Enter the Shredder".
  • Raphael breaks the fourth wall by saying "Next time I wish the writers would come up with a better plot device."
  • Rocksteady mentions a show called _My Mother the Tank_, a play on the 1960's television series _My Mother the Car_.
  • At the end, Raph exclaims "Mona Lisa watch out" upon learning that Mike won free tickets to Europe. A couple weeks later "Raphael Meets His Match" aired, where he met a girl named Mona Lisa.
  • The Idaho Potatoes is a parody of The California Raisins, a show which had indeed been cancelled by the time this episode aired.
