GET SHREDDER!

01PLOT

Following the events of the previous episode and picking up several weeks later, the Ninja Turtles pick up a report on the police scanner of a sudden break-in that is being perpetrated by characters whose descriptions match Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady.

Meanwhile, Krang informs Shredder that the site of the old 1964 World's Fair would make a great hide-out. Krang believes that the pavilion housing the Hall of Science might still contain equipment that they can use to conquer the world.

At the sight of the break-in, The Turtles find foot prints belonging to Krang's Bubble Walker and a brochure for the 1964 World's Fair. The TMNT hustle over to the site just as Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady are about to take possession of the Hall of Science Pavilion, only to be greeted by laser fire from Berserko, the current resident.

Shredder takes off and Krang gets captured by the Turtles. When Berserko hears the name "Krang" he orders his Cyberdrones to remove him from the Turtles' possession. Later, when Shredder realizes that Krang is missing, Bebop and Rocksteady tell him that they last saw Krang being grabbed by the Turtles.

Berserko reveals himself to be Drakus, Krang's former weapons engineer who helped him design the Technodrome, and whom Krang had betrayed, blasted out of Dimension X, and whose homeworld he had destroyed (apparently Krang didn't want to risk any of Drakus's relatives seeking vengeance on him for his treachery). As a result, Drakus wants revenge.

Unfortunately Berserko's Annihilator (a tank-like war machine that is smaller than the Technodrome) is experiencing a malfunction. Berserko threatens to fry Krang unless he tells him how to fix it. Krang reluctantly agrees.

Shredder plants an explosive device in the basement of Channel 6 and threatens to blow it up unless the Turtles rescue Krang from Berserko. One minute after Shredder's deadline the Turtles successfully rescue Krang. Relieved to see that the building is still standing, Raphael makes the mistake of suggesting that Shredder had been bluffing. With that, declaring "_I NEVER bluff,_" Shredder blows the building to rubble!

Enraged at the seeming demise of their friends (and Burne and Vernon, to a lesser extent), the Turtles attack Shredder and company, defeat them and tie them up. Unfortunately, rather than deliver them to the police, they have no choice but to leave them so that they can stop Berserko's Annihilator, which is now up and running, from destroying Manhattan.

After successfully defeating Berserko, the Turtles escape with the new villain in tow as the Annihilator plunges into the Hudson River and explodes upon impact.

Back at the site of the former Channel Six building, the Turtles discover Shredder and company gone--naturally, Shredder sliced the ropes and he and his mutants hit the road. They are grief-stricken over the loss of April and Irma, but then April and company turn up alive and well, much to their relief. Luckily, Splinter had already rescued April, Irma, Vernon and Burne just moments before. Unfortunately Burne wrongfully and falsely blames the Turtles for the building's destruction, as well as other disasters caused by Shredder and Krang, and vows to get even with them. However, April replies that no matter what, the Turtles will continue fighting to defend New York from the forces of evil, "_...ESPECIALLY Shredder._"

05NOTES & GOOFS

• Right before Donatello fixes the Turtle Van, the lettering on the front of the van is green instead of white.

06TRIVIA

• The first episode of the so-called "Red Sky seasons".
• The show's theme song was replaced by an almost totally new one starting with this episode. While the lyrics are mostly the same, the music for both the intro and the end credits is completely new. Unlike the previous intro sequence, which was specially animated, the new intro is made up of stock shots from episodes of this season and the first live-action film.
• The final appearance of the Channel 6 building.
• Michelangelo rarely ever uses his extreme surfer lingo in this episode, and uses his trademark "Cowabunga!" in a gritty remark after pinning Shredder down.
• In the last episode Krang was seen in his body, but in this episode he's in his bubble walker. Since the body had been badly damaged at the end of the previous episode, presumably Krang was unable to repair it without the Technodrome's resources, but this doesn't explain how his body ends up at the Technodrome in "Divide and Conquer".
• As of this episode Bill Martin (credited in Season 8 as "William E. Martin") takes over for Townsend Coleman in voicing Shredder, and remains in the role for the rest of the series, including his final three in Season 10.
• From this episode until the final episode, April has blue eyes instead of the generic black animated ones.
• The Turtles now actually have diamond-shaped eye holes in their masks to make them appear darker, and the area around their eyes is now visible through the holes instead of only the whites of their eyes being visible in the old art style. The color of their belts is now tan rather than the older brown color, and April no longer wears her yellow jumpsuit. Not to mention, the Turtles' head shapes now look similar to their Mirage Studios counterparts.
• Throughout this season the walls of the Turtles’ lair are purple instead of brown.
• As of this episode April drives her own car and no longer uses the Channel 6 news van or scooter.
